There are few things that get us more excited than LEGO. A classic Volkswagen Combi would be one of those things. So when LEGO produces a blocky version of the iconic van, we stop everything to stare in awe and figure out how to get one.
Turns out that getting one is a relatively simple process. Just hop online and buy one from Lego for the quite reasonable sum of US$119.99. But we admit not everyone will be as keen as us to purchase a LEGO Volkswagen Combi van. To those people we say, “why the hell not? Have you not lived? Do you not like Lego? Do classic cars, perhaps, bug you for some reason? What the hell is wrong with you?” Once we have shelved our mild outrage, we will answer your query.
Hold on, the outrage hasn’t quite gone… OK, now it has. The LEGO Volkswagen Combi is an authentic replica of the 1962 model of the van. According to LEGO, “Every iconic feature is here!” That’s some statement, but it does say that you get the iconic ‘V’ three colour front, the rounded window frames, the safari windshield that’s split at the front, opening doors, pop-up roof, curtains surrounding the windows, roof rack, rear-side air vents and more. So far so good. But there is more inside…
Like the real VW Combi, the LEGO version is powered by a flat four cylinder boxer engine and has “front cabin bench seat, gear stick, angled dashboard and iconic spherical speedometer, to custom LEGO features like folding rear bench seat, folding dinette table, closet with mirror and even a painting!”
We rest our case. The jury comes back with a verdict of… AWESOME.
