The biggest problem with the otherwise impressive Foxtel on Xbox service was the arbitrary restriction it placed on availability it placed on people who lived outside Foxtel’s broadcast area. Today, that all changed.

Now, Xbox owners around the country can subscribe to the Foxtel on Xbox service, no matter where they live, so long as they have a broadband connection fast enough to stream video. All 30 channels, as well as the temporary Olympics channels launching later this year, are now available for all Xbox customers. Obviously this is all thanks to the Austar takeover, but whatever the cause, it’s about time that all Australians get access to the same content, irrespective of their geography.
