There’s always been something appealing to me about the concept of having a projector – this small device can give you a huge screen as long as you have the space on the wall. The idea of taking it with you for meetings or family trips – that seems a bridge too far. Not so with the Viewsonic Portable range.

I’ve got a few projectors in the EFTM review lab right now, and well, if you put this little fella side by side with some of the big guns it is punching above its weight.
It’s not for your lounge room as the permanent “TV replacement”, however you could easily pull it out for a big event screening, or movie time for the family.
We took it with us on a family trip, and it served it’s purpose straight away – a rainy day meant loads of local kids were stuck inside. An iPad with kids TV shows loaded on it, hooked up via HDMI to the Viewsonic PLED and we had a 100+ inch screen right before their eyes.
Sound from this tiny little unit (I reviewed the PLED-W800) which weighs just 830 grams wasn’t fantastic, but seriously you’re not buying a surround sound system here.
In a more corporate environment, with the size and weight taken into account this is perfect for business users who could benefit from projecting their own presentations instead of hoping the audio-visual setup at the destination is everything that you need.
Adding to that use-case, the W800 will also project Word, Excel and Powerpoint or PDF files right from a USB drive or SD card.
